Moment of the weekend: Rea vs Razgatlioglu in final lap scrap!

Monday, 24 June 2019 09:14 GMT

With one rider going for their 75th career win and the other going for their first, stakes were high in Race 2 on the last lap at Misano!

It was a scintillating battle in Race 2 of the Misano WorldSBK weekend, as young pretender Toprak Razgatlioglu (Turkish Puccetti Racing) took on the King of WorldSBK in recent years, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK). Leading for 13 laps, Razgatlioglu capitalised on Alvaro Bautista (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) crashing out at Turn 4 in the opening laps. With Bautista’s departure, it was an all-Kawasaki affair at the front.

The Turkish rider set a fast pace with Jonathan Rea stalking him throughout the race. With four laps to go, Rea got ahead but Razgatlioglu refused to be dropped, making for one of the most exciting final laps of the 2019 WorldSBK season! With both riders struggling for grip, it really was the ragged edge of WorldSBK as both chased wins for different reasons: Razgatlioglu for his first in his career and for Turkey, and Rea for the chance to be back in the title race!
